Robert E. "Bob" DeVlieger, 74, of Panama, NY, passed away in his home on Friday, May 23, 2025, surrounded by his family following a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Jamestown, NY on February 2, 1951, to the late Bert E. and Esther Malanky DeVlieger, Sr.
Bob was a workaholic in every sense of the word from the very beginning. He remained dedicated to his elbow grease, being of service to others always. Albeit a jokester to the extreme of reminiscent "ball busting," Bob's stubborn character enlivened every room.
Serving in the US Marine Corps throughout the Vietnam War Era, Bob was a devout veteran.
The proud business owner of B&M Electric, Bob enjoyed many years of 24/7 contracting work with his son, Chad, who has kept the business in the family.
Family time was the paramount peak of Bob's routines. Whether it was cheering from the stands at baseball games or get togethers with tasty cookouts, the hours as a familial unit made Bob the happiest. Trips to the zoo were frequented and, memorably, the family will forever treasure their last trip with Bob to the botanical gardens.
Bob fancied old cars. So, too, in all his years of fatherhood, he only missed one year of opening night at the rodeo. His passions ran deep and will continue through the legacy he created.
Bob's spirit will be profoundly missed by his wife, Mary Austin DeVlieger, whom he married in June of 1984; his children, Shyanne (Paul) Newberry, Sonya (Roger) Bingham, Nicole DeVlieger, Jeffrey (Kayla) Peate, Levi (Amber) DeVlieger, Chad (Heather) DeVlieger, and Travis (Tonja) DeVlieger; 24 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings, Carolyn (Ronald) Smith, Bert DeVlieger, Jr., and Charlotte (Jim) Greenawalt; many nieces and nephews; his best friends, Joe Siperek, Lonny and Jane Stebbins, Chris Fitzpatrick, and Bud and Debbie Pike; and his caring neighbors, Mark and Sharon Davenport.
Special thanks to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate commitment to Bob and the family. Laurie Intahar's company and care was impactful, as were the genuine regards from Sara DeVlieger and Julie Nagel.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandy DeVlieger; his granddaughter, Toya Baker; and his siblings, Carl Stevens and Pam DeVlieger.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, no public services or visitation will be observed. Private burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750.
