Robert P. "Bobby D" DiNapoli
Of Wellesley, MA, passed away peacefully in his loving wife's arms in the comfort of his home on Thursday, August 14, 2025 after many years of declining health. He was 88 years old.
Born on September 3, 1936, in Somerville, he was the beloved son of the late Michael DiNapoli and Filomena (Mosca) DiNapoli. Bobby came to Waltham as a child, where he was raised and educated, before settling in Wellesley in 1985.
At the age of just 16, Bobby proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably during the Korean War. That same spirit of boldness and determination carried throughout his life and career.
An entrepreneur with a passion for gaming, Bobby founded Bobby D's Casino Tours in 1982. The company grew into a full-service tour business representing casino hotels across New England, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, the Caribbean, and beyond. His expertise and relationships in the gaming industry brought him into collaboration with some of the most renowned casino hotels in the world, including the Riviera in Las Vegas, Tropworld and Caesars in Atlantic City, Harrah's in Lake Tahoe, the Condado Plaza in Puerto Rico, the Playboy Casino in the Bahamas, and many more.
From 1991 to 1994, Bobby served as Casino Sales and Marketing Director for Lucayan Beach Resort and Casino, while also leading the North American Marketing Office for the Aruba Grand Holiday Casino. He held gaming licenses in New Jersey, Nevada, and the Bahamas, a reflection of both his credibility and lifelong passion for the industry.
Bobby also became a familiar face in broadcasting. From 1989 to 1992, he co-hosted the weekly television series On the Line, a program examining gambling issues worldwide and featuring live feeds from Las Vegas. In 1988, he contributed a regular segment called "Sunday Night Quarterback" on Offsides, a New England Patriots football show, analyzing point spreads and upcoming games. That same year, he appeared on The Jerry Williams Show in Boston to discuss the state of gambling in America.
Beyond his career, Bobby was a man who loved people and treasured community. Known for his outgoing spirit, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with friends - especially his morning crew at Dunkin' Donuts on River Street in Waltham. He was a proud Life Member of both the Sons of Italy Dante Alighieri Lodge in Waltham and the Waltham Lions Club, as well as Lions Club International. For years, he chaired the annual Joe Lazaro Blind Celebrity Golf Tournament, co-chaired by none other than Bob Hope.
Bobby will be remembered for his warmth, his wit, and his larger-than-life presence. He built not just a career, but a legacy of connection, friendship, and passion that touched countless lives.
He is survived by his soulmate of 44 years and devoted and loving wife MaryAnn L. (Julian) DiNapoli; his cherished nieces and nephews, Nicole Julian, Danielle Julian, Madeline Julian, Michael J. DiNapoli, Debbie DiNapoli, and Lori DiNapoli, and many great cousins, extended family and numerous friends.
