Robert Earl Dirmeyer, 81 of LaFayette, passed away October 6, 2025, at Blanchard Valley Hospital.
Bob was born October 6, 1944 in LaFayette, to Paul and Violet (Kenton) Dirmeyer, who preceded him in death. On December 31, 1980, he married Kathleen Kay Dirmeyer, who preceded him in death on January 28, 2024.
Bob was a 1963 graduate of LaFayette Jackson High School and he worked at General Dynamics until his retirement. He went on to further his career by working for Allen County and Hardin County Sheriff Departments, Allen County and Hardin County Child Support and TSC. Bob was a member of LaFayette Congregational Christian Church, The Good Sam's Club, The Buckeye Riders and Drivers Club and the United Wagon Train. He enjoyed deer hunting, especially bow hunting, and going on trail rides and camp outs. Bob loved being outdoors. Horses were his passion. Bob enjoyed everything from raising horses to teaching his kids how to ride. Most of all, he was a hard worker. Bob's hands were never idle and he loved welding and fixing things.
He is survived by his children, Charles E. Smith, Stephen (LeAnn) Smith, Robert Rob Dirmeyer, Jr., Robert William Bill (Mary ) Smith, and Deborah (Rick) Kirkendall; grandchildren, Brandt Smith, Jenna Smith, Eric Smith, Brianna (Mike) Dicke, Trevin Hirsch, Paige (David) Kiley, Gracie (Shawn) Carmean, Allison Dirmeyer, Kayla Wood, Cody Ryan (Amanda) Wood, and Chase (Alicia) Wood; great-grandchildren, Eli, Aurora, Everly, Jensen, Kenly, Maxton, Benji, Aubrey, Gideon, Rhyett, and Remi; siblings, Madonna Lawrence, Jean Dirmeyer, Paula Dirmeyer, Richard Dirmeyer, Jeff (Connie) Dirmeyer and his brother-in-law, Stephen Yaney.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob is preceded in death by his great-grandson, Hayden Glasco; sister, Rose Mewhorter, Donna Dirmeyer; brothers, Dennis Dirmeyer and Randy Dirmeyer; brothers-in-law, Marion Lawrence, Dale Yaney and Charles Yaney, and his sister-in-law, Rita Yaney.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 13, 2025 at LaFayette Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Charles Moeller to officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES - EASTSIDE CHAPEL and again from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
