Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spooner Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Robert "Bob" Lee Dorbert passed into the House of the Lord on January 25, 2026, after a long illness. He was born on December 5, 1942, in
Baltimore, Maryland, to Frances Rohr Dorbert and Frederick Charles Dorbert.
Bob wore many hats throughout his life. He joined the United States Air Force on September 27, 1962, where he served with distinction. During his service, he received certificates of appreciation from the 6551st Air Police Squadron, served as a military police officer at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, completed deployments to the Middle East, and ultimately earned Top Secret Custodial Agent clearance in 1965. He was honorably discharged on September 26, 1968.
Following his military service, Bob became a police officer in Melbourne, Florida, eventually rising to the rank of Detective in the Robbery Homicide Division. He was decorated by the Governor of Florida for his service and also received a heroism medal for saving the life of an infant in Eau Gallie, Florida. In 1977, Bob married Julie McMurtrie, and together they had three children: Andrea (Brad) Staley, Scott Dorbert, and Nicole (Rusty) Hylton. Bob was a devoted and supportive father, always present with advice, encouragement, and well-timed jokes.
Although Robert and Julie's relationship later changed, his dedication to his family never did. In 1995, he married Sharon Louise Ledbeter (Zellmer), and they remained married until his passing. Through this union, his family grew to include stepchildren Karla (Kurt) Meier, Shawn (Heidi) Zellmer, and Chad (Mimi) Zellmer.
Bob was blessed with many grandchildren: Frederick Dorbert; Brantley and Genevieve Hylton; Aaron Brown (Kelly) and David Brown (Thallyta); Chayse and Braden Zellmer; and Ashley (Andrew), Greg (Alyssa), and Kayleigh (Caleb) Sinclair. He was also proud to welcome his great-grandson, Zander Brown, and his great-granddaughter, Audriana Zellmer, as well as unmet great-grandchildren Sawyer, Mason, and Riker.
Bob was very active in the Central Wisconsin veteran and motorcycle communities, including the Legion Riders, and served as President of the Christian Motorcycle Association chapter in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He loved cruising around on his motorcycles and trike.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Todd, and innumerable friends. Wherever Bob went, his charm and humor brightened the world around him. In death, he is reunited with his parents, his sister Betty, and his grandson Jameson.
A Military Funeral Honors Service will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, N4063 Veterans Way,
Spooner, WI on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation and a light luncheon will be provided following the event at the Cornerstone Church in Spooner.
