Robert David Dorsett

Youngsville-Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 06, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Youngsville honoring the life of Robert David Dorsett, 80, who passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
Robert is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cynthia Wilson Dorsett; children, Amy Bell, and Robin Cook; bonus children, William Kolkman, Dawn Kolkman, and Andrea Dwyer (Bill); grandchildren, Trevor Duhon, Quinton Kolkman, Kellsey Kolkman (Emily), Chase Kolkman, Joshua Bonin, Kyle Duhon, Jeannelle Bonin (Luke), Chloe Duhon, Rylan Duhon, and Syddalee Kolkman; and siblings, Margaret Spencer, Phyliss Clemens, and Margie Joy (Bill).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. Dorsett, and Edith Carpenter Dorsett; daughter, Wendy K. Dorsett; and great grandchild, Emerson Kolkman.
Robert was born August 22, 1943, in Fort Wayne, IN to Robert and Edith Dorsett. He graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne. After graduating he joined the Navy. He started his work career as a fitter and welder. In 1981, he moved to New Iberia, LA and worked for McDermott. He changed careers and began working for himself as a carpenter and jack of all trades. He then went into retail and worked at Walmart and then Bud's. He switched to working for McDonalds of Abbeville for 20 years, where he did maintenance work for 10 locations. He enjoyed visiting all the locations and seeing his coworkers and considered them all his family.
His greatest love was his wife of 40 years, Cynthia (Cyndi). He enjoyed spending time with her and going to Mel's Diner on Saturdays and Meche's Donut King on Sundays before church at First Baptist Church of Youngsville where he was an active member. He loved his children and grandchildren. He would help anyone who needed it.
He loved to joke with everyone and tell stories. It was always "good morning" anytime of day. He will be greatly missed by his family, church family, coworkers, and friends.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday, December 05, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Louisiana Funeral Services and Crematory 108 Hardware Road Broussard, LA. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday, December 06, 2023 from 9:00 AM until time of services at First Baptist Church of Youngsville at 623 Lafayette Street Youngsville, LA.
