Angie "Cookie" Romero
Angie Romero, born January 9, 1966, passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 59.
Angie- known as "Cookie" to most-had called Lafayette home for more than 40 years. Originally from New Orleans, she was born to Kenneth and Sharon Dick Loar and moved to Lafayette during her teenage years. After graduating high school, Angie stayed and began building her family with her former spouse of 13 years, Kevin Romero, and together they had three children. Angie dedicated her life to being a present and nurturing mother to her children, always sure to be supportive and involved, never missing a game, play, or award ceremony, she loved being a mom and her children always remained her main focus throughout their lives.
Angie is survived by her fiancé, companion, and dear friend of many years, Chad Pitts; her three children, Tiffany Romero, Jessica Romero Hunt (August), and Jason Romero (Brooke Zeringue); her grandchildren, Jasmine, Macie, and Drake; her sister Heather Loar Alexie; and Timmy Conrad, whom she lovingly considered a brother. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Emily, Ashley, and Michael Catalano, as well as her dear father, Kenneth Loar.
Cookie had a gift for creativity and a love for all things crafting. Whether working on her Cricut projects, helping plan celebrations, or designing thoughtful tributes for others, she poured her heart into every detail. Her family lovingly called her the "crafting queen," recognizing the joy and fulfillment she found in creating.
A true social butterfly, Angie lit up every room she entered and loved meeting and socializing with everyone. She was giving and endlessly kind-often doing more for others than she ever expected in return. Helping people brought her pride and genuine happiness.
Angie cherished adventure and loved hitting the open road with her fiancé when she was able, traveling across many states on his motorcycle together over the years. There was a certain calm, a peacefulness that she could get out on the open road, reflecting on times where she might have gotten some of the best sleep while on the back of his bike. She also treasured her girls' trips, and especially enjoyed museums, flea markets, and discovering unique finds along the way.
Gathering with those she loved at her favorite spots like "Somewhere Else Lounge" and "Gloria's"-brought her so much joy. She recently took up playing darts and loved attending bingo nights there with her children. To her kids, she was The Best: the perfect balance of parent and friend. They describe her as vibrant, colorful, courageous, and a true light in their lives and in the lives of those around her. Even through her difficult battle with cancer, she remained strong-ultimately beating it with grace and determination and gratitude.
Cookie lived life boldly and loved her family fiercely. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, especially her beloved dog, Preston, whom she absolutely adored.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Dick Loar; her paternal grandparents, George Edward Loar and Gursey Rafray Loar; and her maternal grandparents, Robert Dick and Cornelia "Nealie" Murray.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life to honor Cookies vibrant and colorful spirit on Friday November 21, 2025, from 4-8pm at Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory located at 108 Hardware Rd. in Broussard.
