Robert William Duncan, affectionately known as Bill, passed away on May 8, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana. Born on September 24, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of many throughout his journey.
Bill had a rewarding career, dedicating himself to the concrete industry with Carmel Concrete until his retirement. He embraced the simplicity of life, finding joy in routine and cherished family gatherings. Bill’s personality was marked by kindness; he readily engaged with neighbors and friends, often sharing pleasant conversations during walks with his beloved companion, Ellis.
His love for family was profound, exemplified by the moments spent with his children: Terri Cosgrove, Jimmy Duncan, Jeff Duncan, Julie Loftis, and Kellie Balliett. He took immense pride in his role as a father, fostering memories and sharing experiences that would last a lifetime. Bill’s legacy continues with his 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, who brought him boundless happiness. He held a special bond with his brother, Don Duncan, and often reflected fondly on the memories made with his late siblings, Jim Duncan and his cherished mother, Margaret Duncan, and father, Bob Duncan, and son, Robbie Duncan and daughter, Amy Duncan.
Bill dearly loved his late wife, Trudie Duncan, with whom he spent countless joyful moments, especially traveling to Tennessee, a place they both adored. Their adventures included trying new restaurants and exploring captivating sights. Together, they nurtured a home filled with love, laughter, and an appreciation for the beauty of life. Following Trudie's passing, Bill dedicated his heart to continuing their shared passions.
In addition to his family, Bill had varied interests that painted a colorful picture of his life. He enjoyed golfing and delighted in spending time on the course with his son-in-law, Ben, over the last several years. Cooking was another avenue through which he expressed his creativity, and although he often sought assistance in the kitchen, he relished the opportunity to prepare meals, especially as he navigated his culinary challenges.
Bill's fondness for gardening was reflected in his love for planting flowers, specifically enjoying the vibrant presence of hummingbirds at his feeders. He relished having Kellie and Ben help him with his garden as it became more difficult for him to manage on his own.
Bill was also a proud veteran, having served in the US Army. His bravery extended beyond his service; he was especially proud of the time he saved a little girl from drowning while in duty. His patriotic spirit and devotion to God and country were defining aspects of his character.
