Robert Lanier Edge

Robert ( Punk ) Lanier Edge, a cherished member of the Porterdale and Covington communities, left this world on September 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering friendship. Born on January 31, 1948, in Porterdale, Georgia, Punk, affectionately known by all as "Uncle Punk," became a beacon of joy and a friend to many throughout his 77 years.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Hazel, after 49 devoted years of marriage, and his parents Mercer and Ruth Edge, along with his brother Larry Edge, Punk’s warm presence will be deeply missed by his loving family. His memory lives on through his brother-in-law Marvin Johnson; his nephews Jody (Toni) Edge, Stacy (Jody Lou) Edge, Michael Johnson; and his adored great-nieces and nephews Chris (Amy) Ussery, Lauren (Dan) Anthony, Daphane Taylor, Alexis Edge; as well as his cherished great-great-nieces and nephews Carson Anthony, Annie Anthony, Macen Edge, Ella Kate Anthony, and Ezekiel Edge.

An active and engaging man, Punk’s service to his country as a member of the Army National Guard for 20 years, including tours in Vietnam and Bosnia, stood as a testament to his noble character. Following his distinguished military career, he continued to serve as a source of strength and camaraderie to those around him.

Punk’s passions were many, but none so evident as his deep faith at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Almon, his love for golf, and his unwavering support of the Georgia Bulldogs. With a host of friends from all walks of life, he made sure laughter was always a part of the equation, especially during the weekly poker games where he was a regular fixture.

Kindness was as natural to Punk as breathing, his humor was infectious, and he had a friendliness that knew no bounds. Known for his open heart and open door, Uncle Punk never met a stranger, and his legacy will be carried on not just in memories but in the countless lives he touched.

As we bid farewell to Robert ( Punk ) Lanier Edge, we are reminded of the beauty of a life well-lived and well-loved. As a final testament to the man who was a pillar in his community, a hero in his nation's history, and a cherished friend to so many, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the laughter and kindness he left behind. His memory will be forever etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.

A Funeral Service for Punk will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Mike Watley officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, on Wednesday 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
