Robert E. Elbertson

Robert Elbertson, 98 years 'young', of Ballston Spa, NY, died peacefully on September 15, 2024. Bob was the son of Nelson and Pearl Megee Elbertson. He is survived by his former spouse Edna, his longtime girlfriend Sharon, his cousin Linda Skehan, a niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his daughter Vicki Lynn, her mother Marge, and his brother Roland.
Bob was proud of his military service in the United States Navy during WWII, serving as GM3C in the Pacific Theater 1944-1947. Following his service, he attended Wharton School of Business, Philadelphia, PA, and worked for National Cash Register (NCR) in Syracuse and Elmira, NY. In 1966, Bob responded to a call to ministry, attending Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. He served several United Methodist churches (UMC) in the Elmira and Tully, NY area. Eventually, Bob returned to business, working for Therm, Inc. in Ithaca until his retirement.
In his earlier days, Bob played drums in a jazz band, and frequented clubs in NYC, reveling in seeing the leaders of the Big Bands. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed sailing. In his later years, Bob enjoyed playing his snare drum to his New Orleans jazz records. He also started woodworking- making furniture, turning bowls, and carving birds and little figurines.
Bob's outgoing and playful personality quickly endeared him to neighbors, his activity groups, and his UM church family. His bright, witty spirit will be missed! A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 2 pm at the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church, 101 Milton Ave, Ballston Spa, NY 12020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ballston Spa UMC.
