Robert Cain Emory was born the 5th of five children to Chester Ray Emory and Lucia Bernadine Cain on September 11, 1936. He passed from this Earth on September 13, 2024.
He married Dorothy Anne Kelly on June 1, 1963 at the Presbyterian Church of Silver Springs, MD. They have celebrated 61 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, three children, Vicki Emory of St. Louis, MO; Robert C. Emory Jr. of Bushnell, IL and Tasha (Jeremy) Hamm of Good Hope, IL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nathan (Gina) Mueller, Makenzie (DAngelo) Oglesby, Jasmine and Kelby Hamm and one great grandchild Kane Noltkamper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons partner Penny Deford-Goff, brother, Leo (Wads) Emory, three sisters, Phyllis Whittier, Maxine Parker and Mary Rose Springer.
Bob has lived a varied and interesting life. He served in the Army Security Agency as a Liaison Officer between the Pentagon and the White House. He water skied with his ski group on the Potomac River during his Army years and with the Aqua Clowns of Avon both before and after that time. His favorite was flying the kite and releasing to float back to earth to ski it out. He also liked the tricks, slalom, jumping, driving the boat and teaching new folks to water ski.
With his pilots license he enjoyed taking numerous flights to various destinations with his family. He was the pilot for Western Illinois Parachute Club. He belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association of Monmouth. He and a friend built a homemade aircraft which flew quite nicely.
Volunteerism was important to him. He served as a previous Chief of the Prairie City Fire Department. He drove blood products about 375,000 miles to various locations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa for Mississippi Valley Blood Bank (now Impact). Bob also donated many multiple gallons of blood over the years.
He is a retiree of NTN Bower, had a lifetime love of music particularly jazz, met with his classmates and friends every other Tuesday for breakfast, drank coffee Monday mornings at Courtyard Estates, danced with the C&M Dance family and forever always supported the Cubs and the Bears.
Graveside services with full Military Rites will be held on Saturday December 21, 2024 at 12:00 pm noon when his immediate family will gather at the Prairie City Cemetery. His extended family and friends are welcome to join. Pastor Brett Fisher will officiate. Memorial contributions are suggested to McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or to the Checkrow Community Church. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
