Robert Arthur Entrop (Bob) Obituary
Robert Arthur Entrop was born in Seattle, WA on August 20, 1925, to Gerard F and Louise M Lutz Entrop.
Bob lived a very full 99 and a half years, and the Lord called him home on April 22, 2025. He passed just as he wished, in his sleep and at home. The days leading up to his passing he was surrounded by his family. He also had the caring hands of Abdul M, his full-time caregiver for his final months.
Bob grew up in the Roosevelt district in Seattle where he met the love of his life, Patricia Evelyn Phillips. Bob graduated from Roosevelt High School in June 1943 and joined the U.S. Navy in November 1943. The Navy provided the bulk of his education starting in the Naval Radio School in Farragut, ID to Texas A&M, the Naval Transmitter Station in Annapolis Maryland, the Navy Radio Tech School in Chicago and to Bell Labs in NY. The radio schooling, high power transmissions and transmissions equipment and learning multi-channel and single side band channels prepared him for his tour in Guam where he oversaw Joint Communications in WWII. If you could get him talking, he would tell many war stories of how they lived in Guam, thankfully not seeing any combat but in charge of communications across the South Pacific. After the war, Bob attended the University of Washington and went in to the workforce at Standard Oil, the Boeing Company, and eventually went out on his own with a partner, formed the Ray Johnston Company April 1, 1952, and worked as a manufacturer's sales rep for industrial, electrical products and consumer and professional sound equipment. After Ray's passing, Bob created Northmar, Inc., where he worked with and mentored 3 of his sons, eventually selling the company to his 3 sons, still going strong to this day.
Bob married Patricia "Patsy" at his spiritual home, Blessed Sacrament, on November 29, 1947. In 1951, the young couple began their family and raised 5 children in North Seattle. They were charter members of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Seattle, and sent all 5 kids there for school.
Bob's passions were many -- including his family; he loved Amateur Radio where he maintained daily contact with his friends up until a few weeks before his passing. He started skiing at a young age and passed that love of the mountains and sport to his family. He used to run gas up the rope tow at Steven's Pass where Big Chief/Kehr's Chair currently is so he could ski for free. He'd hitch a ride during his teenage years to get on the hill. His high school friend, Art Audett, got Bob into teaching skiing. He taught for Audett Ski School for many years and obtained the highest teaching certification through PSIA and PNWSA. He mentored others and helped them gain their certifications as well. Wanting to do things on his own, Bob started the Lake City Elks Ski School where 100's of children learned to ski. All of the profits went back into the Lake City Elks Youth Programs. His impact was large. He gained many friendships with others up at Steven's Pass over the years and was able to purchase a cabin in Skykomish with another special family to continue the legacy of skiing at Steven's Pass for generations to come.
Bob enjoyed boating and introduced the family to the love of the water. His prized possession was his 30' Chris Craft, the Queen 'V R's, that was maintained by his 'crew'/kids.
Vacations to the US and Canadian San Juans were a favorite, sitting on a beach shucking oysters, eating clams and cleaning crab to be enjoyed by all. He built a home on Camano Island and continued to enjoy the water.
Bob was an early member of Inglewood Golf and CC, and most recently Skagit Golf and Country Club. He played less and less but always enjoyed a good match on TV.
His life was full. We're thankful he's joined his love in Heaven, dancing with the angels, on smooth water and perfectly groomed corduroy runs.
Predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Louise; brother Richard, sister Mary Jane Entrop. Bob is survived by his children Robert Jr. (Kimberly), Richard (Sharyn), Russell (Kathy), Roger, Christina Albert (Graham). His grandchildren Kyle (Marni), Kelly (Colin Edmonds), Todd, Chelsea (Joel Barduson), Christopher (Delaney) Ashley, Teneille Tierce, Dustin Sylvia, Michael Albert (Cassidy) and Joey (Alyssa) Albert; and great grandchildren, Cayden & Charlee Edmonds, Asa & Sloane Entrop, James & Elle Barduson, Evelyn & Isla Albert, and Myles Albert.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Reception to follow. Graveside service at Holyrood Cemetery at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Matthew Parish, 1240 N.E. 127th St., Seattle, WA 98125
