Robert Myron Erickson, oldest son of Myron Virgil and Helen Mae (Scott) Erickson, was born June 10, 1941 in Fort Dodge and grew up on a farm north of Duncombe. He attended school until the 11th grade in Duncombe and then graduated from Lincoln High in Webster City in 1959. Bob farmed with his father at Duncombe and later at Humboldt. While in high school, Bob joined the Iowa National Guard and served for nine years. He attended college at Iowa Central and graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee in 1966. Bob worked for Bruce Funeral Home for three years, before coming to Webster City to serve with Fosters.
On June 10, 1961 he married Cathy Hansch. To this union, two daughters were born, LaJean and Jody. The couple were later divorced.
Bob was united in marriage to Mary Ann Roper on July 19, 1975 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. To this union one daughter and one son were born, Amy and Scott. Bob became the sole owner of Foster Funeral Home in 1994. He was privileged to have worked with several outstanding individuals throughout the years. He was especially proud of sharing time with Scott and Amy and witnessing their success in the funeral profession.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Ann; a family who gave him much pride, LaJean Erickson of Hot Springs Village, AR; Jody Finks of Palmdale, CA and her children, Erica and Nicholas (Kaely) and great-grandson, Caiden; Amy (Nathan) Keller of Webster City and their children Mason, MaKena (Gage) and Mylie, and great-granddaughter, Everly; Scott (Ashley) Erickson of Glenwood and their children, Jaxon and Vivian; his brothers, Gary (Carol) Erickson of Dakota City, Jim (Sherry) Erickson of Clive, Dan (Carlene) Erickson of Humboldt; brother-in-law, Ron (Rachael) Roper of Green Bay, WI; mother-in-law, Virginia Roper of Webster City; several nephews, nieces, and extended family, and a host of many special friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, father, and father-in-law, John Roper.
Bob spent countless hours volunteering his time in various groups, organizations and special events in Webster City: Hamilton County Fair Board, Jaycees, 4-H Foundation Board, Rotary for over 50 years, the Quasquicentennial and the Sesquicentennial, Enhanced Hamilton County Board member, Webster City Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post #191, Friends of Brushy Creek, and served as district governor of the Iowa Funeral Directors for six years.
His special saying was “If you cannot volunteer, volunteer a friend!” Bob will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Bob was very proud of the many people he had the honor of meeting throughout Iowa and especially in Hamilton County and the Webster City community.
Bob’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the medical providers that have provided exceptional care to him over the years.
