Robert Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Padgett Funeral Home - Upper Deerfield Township on Jan. 16, 2026.
Robert Lee Evans Sr., affectionately known as "Gator" to many and lovingly called "Bay Bay" by his mother peacefully transitioned from this life on January 8, 2026.

Robert was born on August 28, 1950, in Albany, New York, to the late Ernest Wilson and Cora Bell Gibbons Leary. He was a father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and a cherished friend to many. Robert was known for always saying or doing something that would make you laugh, even when he wasn't trying to be funny.

Robert resided in Belle Glade, Florida as a young child until moving to Bridgeton, making it his home. He attended Bridgeton Public schools, later he became employed at the Island in Salem NJ and Wheaton Glass Industries.

Robert relocated to Camden NJ., where he spent most of his adult life, but if you knew Gator you knew he didn't stay put for very long, He was always on the go, but never too far. That was the hustler in him.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory six children Reisha Armstead (Chris) Jermaine Hill, Denise Brown, Derrick Kinsey, Roberta Evans, and Robert Evans Jr; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother Jerry Evans (Kimberly); one sister Winifred Bethel (Ann) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime homeboy Ralph Mills.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his stepfather Fred Leary, his brothers Joseph Leary, Jimmie Lee Evans, and sisters Mary Bigham (Baby-sis), and Victoria Gibbons (Vicky) and brother-in-law Andrew Gibbons Sr.

This celebration of life is held to honor and remember our dad's life and love. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will forever live on in our hearts and those who knew and loved him.

-Lovingly Submitted by the Family
