Robert Felton Obituary
Robert "Bob" John Felton Jr., 78, entered his eternal rest on November 14, 2025, just four days after celebrating his 57th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Carol Ann Abbate Felton.
Born on May 16, 1947, Bob spent most of his life in New York before retiring from the New York Telephone Company, where he proudly worked as a foreman. Upon retirement, Bob and Carol made their home in South Carolina, where they continued building a life grounded in faith, family, and love.
Bob's greatest joys were God, family, and his country. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, and their three children: Robert Felton (Amber), Darlene Holbrooks (Samuel Mark), and Paul Felton. He was a deeply loved and proud grandfather to seven: Raleigh (Warren Hood), Robert "Bo" (Sarah Katherine), Nichole (Gentry Watson), Natalie Holbrooks, Olivia Holbrooks, Victoria (Jarod) Edwards, and Michael Shead; and an even prouder great-grandfather to seven: Emma, Wren, and Brooks Hood; Micah, Aaron, and Beckham Felton; and Odin Edwards.
He is also survived by his siblings James Felton (Jeanne), Kenneth Felton (Chrise), and Carol Volpi (Joe); sisters-in-law Paula (Peter) Bisulca and Clara (Ray) Pine; and brothers-in-law Dominick (Kathleen) Abbate and Paul (Stacy) Abbate. Welcoming him into Heaven are his brother Danny Felton and his beloved parents.
A dedicated patriot, Bob honorably served his country as a Lieutenant tank commander in the Vietnam War. Veteran Lt. Robert Felton commanded a tank as an officer in the formidable 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Blackhorse Regiment"), one of the only heavy armored units to operate effectively in the challenging terrain of Vietnam. He was proud to be a Blackhorse Trooper, leading his crew with honor and courage as they carried out their aggressive mission. The regiment's sacrifices were profound, suffering 635 troopers killed in action and 5,521 wounded. Bob's own bravery earned him numerous prestigious military honors, including four Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Though he rarely spoke of his accomplishments, his family knew the depth of his courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.
Bob's faith was the steady foundation of his life - one he relied on daily, especially in the moments that shaped him most. His most cherished and noble act, as he often said, was returning home from war and immediately marrying the love of his life, Carol, beginning the family that became his greatest legacy. Their 57 years of marriage stand as a testament to devotion, partnership, and unwavering love.
Bob will be remembered for his gentle strength, deep compassion, steadfast faith, and the way he showed up for every person he loved. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his presence will be missed beyond measure.
May he rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the funeral service at noon in the Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the MJ "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in honor of Robert John Felton. Bob was a proud and faithful supporter of this organization, whose mission is to "do good" by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and fallen first responders with young children, and by building specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. The Foundation is also committed to ending veteran homelessness and ensuring that America never forgets the heroes of September 11, 2001.
