Robert Keith Fifield Sr., 93, passed away in Phoenix on Nov. 23, 2024.
Bob was born on Sept. 6, 1931 in Coronado, California. He was the only child of Clarence and Carol Fifield.
Bob went to Coronado High School, where he ran track. He grew up sailing with his family on the weekends, and later was a member of the sailing club at the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated from Berkeley in 1954 with a degree in electrical engineering.
In 1953, Bob married Doris Schlegel. They had six children, one of whom died as an infant. After they divorced, Bob married Shirley Sutherland in 1966. They were together until her death in 2014.
Bob had a successful electrical engineering career at several companies, including RCA and Aerospace. In his spare time, he loved to experiment with computers, transmitters and anything electronic. In 1972, he built his own home alarm system, and it worked for two decades. An early adopter of the personal computer, he bought an Apple II in 1980.
After retiring from Aerospace, Bob stayed busy selling real estate with Shirley. They also enjoyed going out to dinner, and they had a list of restaurants they went to weekly. His favorite quick spot was Panda Express.
Bob liked writing about his life and his family. He completed a full genealogy of his family going back to the 1800s. He loved documenting various day to day happenings, often printing out his notes and stapling the pages into booklets for his family to enjoy.
Bob is survived by his children Robert, Dan, Jon, Jeff and Julie; step-sons Greg and Ward and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Jamie and wife Shirley.
