Robert Daniel Finnell of Hull, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at the age of 91. Born on October 4, 1933, he was the son of Alida and Joseph Finnell Sr. and one of ten siblings. He grew up in Dorchester and at the age of 21, he married the love of his life, Pat. After living in Medford and Charlestown, they ultimately found their home in Hull where they resided for over 60 years.
Robert was extremely hardworking and built a career in respiratory therapy, caring for numerous patients at various hospitals, including Quincy City Hospital and Deaconess Waltham Hospital. Although he loved to work and took pride in every job he had, his greatest accomplishment in life was his family - his wife of 68 years, 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He would beam with pride and joy when talking about them. Robert was a devout Catholic, attending daily mass and praying the rosary on his ride to work. He also loved traveling all around the country, and was often found walking Nantasket Beach with his grandchildren in tow.
Robert is predeceased by his wife, Patricia M. Finnell and survived by their children, Bob & Laurie Finnell of Manchester, NH, Patty & Dave Gardiner of Hull, Jeff & Kathy Finnell of Worcester, Sue & Paul Garrity of Londonderry, NH, and Michelle & John Warren of Whitman. Proud grandfather to Jessica, Jennifer, Katherine, Tim, Joanne, Steve, Geoff, Joseph, Erin, Lynsey, Nicole, Matthew, Patrick, Alexis, David, and Dan, and great-grandfather to Ashley, Shea, Nate, Luke, Caroline, Maverick, Jacqueline, Michael, James, Delaney, and Owen. He is also survived by his younger brother and sister-in-law, James & Marion Finnell of Norwood and predeceased by his other siblings John, Dorothy, Louise, Joseph, William, Lorraine, Jean, and Joan.
The family would like to thank everyone at the Hull Fire Department, South Shore Mobile Integrated Health Unit, Norwell VNA, and the entire staff at Southwood at Norwell Nursing for taking exceptional care of him over the past few years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, August 18 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church in Hull on Tuesday, August 19 at 11:00am followed by a burial at Hull Village Cemetery.
