Robert Arnold Fischer was born July 1, 1945, to his parents, Robert and Anna, in the Bronx. He became the admired big brother to Rudy and Mark, and they grew up in
Avenel, NJ. When Bob graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1963, he became the first person in his family to graduate from high school. His family was proud of his determination in his academics and supported his dream of a college education. Bob earned a scholarship to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and the trajectory of his life would change there. Bob met his great love, Julie, in 1968 and they became engaged that year. Bob studied Political Science and graduated with honors in 1967.
After earning their degrees from Duquesne, Bob and Julie married at Our Lady of Mt Carmel in 1970. They began their life as a married couple in
Middletown, NJ, and eventually moved back to Ridgewood, Julie's hometown, in 1974. Bob always loved Ridgewood.
Bob's greatest accomplishments were his roles of husband, father and grandfather. He was proudly married to Julie for 55 years, and through those years, they traveled the world but also loved dining out locally and sitting on their backyard deck. He was the beloved dad to Karen (Lisbi), Kathleen (Rich) and Bobby (Amy) and Pop-Pop to his seven grandchildren (Silas, Leila, Kira, Allie, Andrew, Lillian, and Charlotte).
Bob was an accomplished financial professional and executive. He spent 17 years at Chase Manhattan. In 1988, he joined DialAmerica Marketing in Mahwah to have a better work life balance.
Bob's love for learning continued throughout his life. He earned his MBA from New York University and became a Certified Financial Analyst charter holder while at Chase. Bob was a voracious reader, always with a pile of books, newspapers, and magazines at his bedside and next to his chair in the den. When he wasn't reading, he was cheering for the Knicks, Yankees, and Steelers.
Bob's Catholic faith was the foundation of his life. After retirement, Bob served Our Lady of Mt Carmel as a eucharistic minister and altar server for daily and funeral masses. He found incredible purpose serving communion to the residents of Ridgewood Center.
Bob passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 9, 2026. He will be remembered as a man of faith, integrity, loyalty, and intellectual curiosity. Bob courageously fought aggressive colon cancer for more than two years, defying all expectations. His family is deeply grateful to the entire Oncology team at Valley Hospital for their compassion and care.
