Robert William Fugate (72) of Abingdon, Va., was called home on Monday, April 15, 2024.
Robert, aka “Billy” or “Billy Jack” as he was affectionately called by friends and family, was born on August 24, 1951, to Pearl Marie Fugate and Roy William Fugate, Jr. in Abingdon, Va. There he was raised with his siblings and attended Virginia Highlands Community College prior to enlisting in the military. Robert enjoyed a full military career with United States Navy and after 20 years of dedicated service, he worked as a contractor.
Robert is survived by his son Dirk Fugate (Anessa); daughter Tenesha Fugate Williams (Leonard); brothers Thomas Fugate (Patricia) and Craig Fugate; and sister Angela Jordan (Patrick); eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, along with extended family members including his mother-in-law, Mulvenia Fairnot.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; his wife of over 40 years, Elizabeth Fugate; son Jeffrey Holman Jr.; brothers James Michael (Mike), and Clarke Alexander (Zan) Fugate; and sister-in-law Valerie Cansler Fugate.
The family requests a gathering of friends on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 E Main St., Abingdon, VA. A celebration of life for Robert will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA, and a Repass will be held at the Community Center of Abingdon 300 Senior Dr., Abingdon, VA.
The family requests all flowers and cards be sent to Farris Funeral Service.
