Mr. Robert Joe Gibson, age 67, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026, at the local hospital.
Joe was born August 30, 1958, in Dalton, Georgia, the son of the late Rebecca Eppidiane “Reba” King Gibson and Robert Henry Gibson. A lifelong resident of the area, Joe was known for his strong work ethic, deep love for his family, and his pride in serving his country.
Joe was a 1976 graduate of Northwest High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he dedicated over forty years of faithful work at Shaw Industries, where he was employed as a supervisor. Joe took great pride in his work and was respected by those who worked alongside him. He was an extremely hardworking man who believed in providing for his family and doing every job to the very best of his ability.
Above all else, Joe loved his family. He treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren and was proud of each of them. His devotion to his family, his country, and his work defined the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a nephew, Bradley Brown, and a brother-in-law, Neal Boggess.
He is survived by his daughter, Lorry Andromeda Gibson of Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Deiondre Joe Gibson, Alexis Lashae McNair, Zahara Cudjoe, Isabella Cudjoe, Isaiah Cudjoe, and Dariah Hunter; great-granddaughter-in-law, Malani Jade Gibson; the mother of his daughter, Angela Diane Gibson; sisters, Elizabeth Sue Gibson, Janis Gay Boggess, and Darcious Gail Brown; nieces and nephews, Sherry Cheri and Paul Jones, and Schaun Marie and Mike Ruble; and cousin, Steve Oliver. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Robert Joe Gibson will be held Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Dr. Danny Cochran officiating. He will be laid to rest with his mother at Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Deiondre Joe Gibson, Sam Gordon, Allen Baynes, Steve Oliver, Paul Jones, Jerry Leopard, and Terry Hampton honored to serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and after 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning until the service hour.
