Robert H. Gierie III
Scarborough
Robert Henry Gierie III passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 26. He was born on April 1, 1999, and resided in
Scarborough, Maine.
Robbie, who lived with cerebral palsy, left behind a legacy of advocacy and strength. His life powerfully demonstrated that a disability is not a tragedy or a measure of worth. Instead, it can coexist with profound insight and a deep valuable way of experiencing and understanding the world. As a passionate advocate for the Robbie Foundation, which his parents created based on his vision, he inspired many of us to see the individual first before the disability.
While he faced many challenges, Robbie never let it define his capacity for love and joy of simple pleasures. You could find him watching endless Disney movies, blushing at the princesses and laughing at Sid the sloth from Ice Age. He enjoyed rolling through nature trails such as Portland Head Light, Eastern Trail, and overlooking the daffodil field at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Other passions of his included yoga, crafting, cooking, and attending shows at the theatre. Robbie liked to dance and play Wii games, but his favorite pastime was floating in his backyard pool for hours at a time, dozing off to sleep while the sun warmed his face.
Robbie's unwavering spirit of perseverance left a lasting mark on all of us, reminding us to live with greater patience, deeper compassion, and true understanding.
Though we wish we had more time with him, his life was one of true meaning and enduring impact. May we all strive to follow Robbie's example of resilience and strength, as we mourn his loss and ensure others like him in our communities experience the same kind of inclusive love…no matter how long or short their lives may be.
The family wishes to extend deep genuine gratitude to Zoë Njaa, his primary care provider, for her long-serving dedication and profound love and affection. She was a constant presence in our lives for many years, and we are humbled by her unwavering support and kindness. We would also like to acknowledge the many care providers, doctors, and therapists who were an integral part of his life.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his parents, Robert H. Gierie Jr. and Lynn (Leclerc) Gierie, half sister Ashley Gerry, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Robert H. Gierie Sr. and Margaret (Veit) Gierie and maternal grandparents, Ludovic Leclerc and Alfreda (Labrie) Leclerc.
The family will honor and celebrate his life in a private gathering.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor all individuals with diverse needs throughout our community by making a donation to Robbie Foundation, an organization that was created by his loving parents on his behalf. www.robbiefoundation.com
