Robert W. Gilbert Jr.

Robert "Bob" W. Gilbert Jr., 79, passed away at his home on March 8, 2026, after battling many illnesses.

Bob was born on January 19, 1947, to Robert W., Sr. and Anne (Tierney) Gilbert.

Bob graduated from Emerson Senior High School in 1965 and soon after proudly answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a time in his life that meant a great deal to him. Being an Army veteran was a central part of Bob's identity; if you knew Bob, you knew he had served. He carried great pride in his military service and the brotherhood he shared with fellow veterans.

Following his time in the Army, Bob worked for PSE&G until retirement, after being recognized as 100% disabled by the Department of Veterans Affairs. He later moved to Hamburg, where he resided until his passing.

Bob remained deeply connected to the veteran community and was a dedicated member of the Sussex County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1002. He also enjoyed the simple routines of daily life, including being a familiar face at Granny's Pancake House and Grill, where he could often be found enjoying breakfast most mornings.

Predeceased by his parents, his brother Christopher Gilbert, and his sister Anne "Terri" Wilson, Bob is survived by many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly and remember him for his service, loyalty, and presence in their lives.

A graveside service and burial will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Westwood Cemetery in Westwood, New Jersey. Arrangements are under the direction of the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ 07416.
