Dennis S. Gilbert

Dennis S. Gilbert, 74, of Latrobe, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Brookdale, Murrysville. Born on July 15, 1951, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late Steve and Mary L. (Nalevanko) Gilbert. Prior to his retirement, he was the associate director of career services at St. Vincent College with 37 years of service, counseling students as they made career choices and pursued employment or graduate work. Dennis was a 1970 graduate of Derry Area High School, where he played football and proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Penn State University. He had been a member of the F.O. Eagles No. 01188 and the American Legion Post No. 515. Dennis loved golfing and watching Penn State football. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Bates. Dennis is survived by a brother-in-law, David Bates, of Monroeville; nieces, Laura, Maria, and Linda and families; and his longtime companion, Cheryl Daniels. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in the funeral home. Interment is private.
