Robert Louis Glomski, affectionately known to friends and family as Bob, was born on January 6, 1933, to the late Edwin and Irene (Collins) in Alpena, Michigan. He lived a life dedicated to his family, his work, and serving his country, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength when he passed on September 28, 2024, at the age of 91 in his beloved Alpena.
Bob's career took shape with Huron Portland Cement and later LaFarge Corporation, where he devoted over four decades and from which he retired after 43 years of hard work and dedication. His relentless commitment to his vocation mirrored the quiet yet steadfast spirit he embodied throughout his life.
A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Army, understanding the value of service and sacrifice. This quiet dignity carried through to every aspect of his life. Those who knew him cherished the way he approached life with a gentle strength, always embodying the ethos of the Strong, Silent type. Bob was someone who was always present, never missing important moments for his family, proving time and again that love sometimes speaks the loudest in silence.
A graduate of Catholic Central High School in Alpena, Bob's education was only one part of what shaped him into the man he became. Though he often kept to himself, his wit and sense of humor would occasionally shine through, bringing laughter to those around him. A patient and kind soul, he touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In his leisure time, Bob found joy in traveling and creating memories with his family. The thrill of a road trip brought him happiness, as he eagerly drove to wherever adventure awaited, embracing each journey as a chance to bond with his loved ones.
He is survived by his children, Debbie Miller of Alabama, DaLynn (Floyd) Dalton of Washington, Robert Glomski of Wisconsin, Richard Glomski of Alpena, Roger (Diane) Glomski of Warren, and Diane (Jim) Phillips of Alpena. Bob was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and the loving great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a niece, Michelle, who will remember him fondly.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Connie, with whom he shared 62 years of a remarkable marriage, a brother, Howard Glomski, a niece, Paula Jean, and a grandchild, Shari Glomski. Their love story was one of deep connection, partnership, and unwavering support — a testament to the power of commitment in shaping a life well-lived.
Bob’s passing has left a void in the hearts of all who loved him, but his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him. In honor of his life, visitation will take place on October 3, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest during the interment at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks to consider All Saints of Alpena or Hospice of Michigan.
As we gather to celebrate the incredible life of Robert Louis Glomski, may we remember him as a loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather, and a steadfast friend. May his legacy of kindness and strength live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
