Mr. Robert J. Gmitter, 95, of Uniontown, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Hillside Manor.
He was born in Monarch, PA on June 3, 1930, to the late Adam and Sophia Struhalla Gmitter.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War era. He was a wheel and track mechanic in the 73rd Tank Battalion and 7th Infantry Division.
He married Sophia Puscian Home Gmitter; she preceded him in death on July 13, 2021.
Robert worked at Anchor Hocking for nineteen years and then retired from Steel Scaffolding after twenty years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and Holy Name Society.
Robert was a member of the Fayette County Golf Association, Springdale Golf Seniors, AMVETS Post 103, and lifetime member of VFW Post 8543.
He was an avid golfer.
Robert is survived by two sons, Richard Homer and wife Christina, and Raymond Homer; six grandchildren, Michael Homer and fiancé Rebecca, Elizabeth Jacinta Homer, an active member of the United States Navy, Jonathan Homer and fiancé Selina, Maria Adams and husband Gary, Jordan Sceley and husband Bobby, and Christina Peters and husband Theron; four great grandchildren, Andre and Alysin Homer and Blare and Cleo Adams; a sister, Eleanor Balena; a brother, Donald Gmitter and wife Eileen; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Theresa Gmitter; a brother, Thomas Gmitter.; and a grandson, Richard Homer, Jr.
Visitation for Robert will be at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401, on Tuesday, July 22nd at 11 AM to 12:15, at which time prayers of transfer will be held for the mass of Christian burial at 1 PM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Rd., Uniontown, PA 15401. A rosary service will be held at the funeral home at 11:30 AM.
Entombment is in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
