Robert Gompf Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2025.
Robert Dean Gompf passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior and his daddy on February 10, 2025. Dean was born in Logan, Ohio, on July 7, 1939, to Lloyd and Ruth Hamilton Gompf. He has been married to Jennifer Jo Hiles Gompf for 35+ years.
Dean was a jack of all trades and master of all. He was third generation florist and grower and was owner and operator of Logan Greenhouse. After the sale of the greenhouse to the state for a highway, he worked as a millwright for Keynes Mill in Logan and also worked for Smead Manufacturing Company. He retired from Ohio State Highway Patrol where he was a drivers license examiner. He had many hobbies including, woodworking, flying, and restoring antique vehicles. His pride and joy was his 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express truck. Dean was a carpenter, electrician, plumber, mechanic, welder, and there was nothing he couldn't fix. If presented with a challenge, he would say "the impossible just takes a little longer". Dean loved the mountains. As a child, his parents would bring him to NC to see the mountains that his daddy loved. Naturally, he and Jennifer retired to those mountains of NC in 2016. He loved all of God's creatures and had many pets over the years. He leaves behind his furry friend, Gracie Mae. One of his greatest loves was flying. Dean got his private pilot's license in 1972, got a plane, and spent as much time in the sky as he could. He especially loved the antique planes and had the privilege of riding in some of the big warbirds. He never lost his love of the sky and clouds. Dean was always so in awe of God`s handiwork. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville. He loved music of all kinds and especially the old church hymns.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, son Chris (Holly), daughter Vickie (DJ) Conrad, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren all of Logan, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Harry Bartholomew, and daughter Adeana Meadows.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville on February 14, 2025, at 11am with a reception immediately following in the Gettman room of the church.
In addition to flowers, contributions may be made to FUMC Music Fund, Blue Ridge Humane Society, Alzheimer's Association or Four Seasons Hospice.
