Robert Francis "Trep" Goodreau passed away Thursday, January 18 at his home.
Trep was born August 18, 1954 in Marquette to Robert and Aini (Tammelin) Goodreau, the second of four children.
He spent his childhood in Negaunee, graduating from Negaunee High School, Class of 1972. He worked at Barney's Shell Station in downtown Negaunee as an Auto-Mechanic, eventually purchasing the business and operating it on his own as Bob's Shell.
An uncommonly good-looking and charismatic man, Trep earned many friends and relationships over the years, and he had plenty of adventures and misadventures and stories to tell!
He eventually met and married his first wife, Mary (Lafreniere) Goodreau, and together they started a life in Texas, where he worked for the Miller Distribution Company. There, in 1982, they had an only child, Amanda. Ultimately, the U.P. ran strong in him, and he moved back home.
1992 was a big year for Trep. This was the year he got married again to Karen (Krause) Goodreau, earning not only a wife, but a step-daughter, Ashley. This was the year his second daughter, Aubrey was born. This was also the year he started working for Cleveland Cliffs, which would develop into a lifelong career as an Electrician at the Empire mine.
He continued in Negaunee as a working and family man. In 1996 his youngest daughter, Abbey, was born.
The relationships he had with his siblings, friends and immediate family were the highest priority in his life, and losing anyone he loved was very hard on him.
Even after he and Karen formally parted ways, the bond between them remained, and supporting his family was extremely important to him.
Trep was a man of honor and integrity. He held himself to high ideals, and he expected them out of others as well. He was generous and loving. He was very athletic and loved to participate in sports both by playing them and by watching. His teams were the Green Bay Packers and the Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!). He was mechanically minded, which is why he thrived in vocations like fixing cars and being an electrician. He was very intelligent when it came to understanding how things work. He had a good understanding of money and economics. He held strong opinions on everything. And at the end of the day...he was a good man.
His death came suddenly and shockingly, and he will be sorely missed by all. We hope he knows how much he was loved.
Surviving are his children: Amanda Goodreau of
Tecumseh, MO, Ashley (Alyshia) Constance of Harvey, Aubrey Goodreau and Abbey Goodreau, both of Marquette, and Jaime (Lyle) Villa Warner of Ishpeming; his sister, Ann Dozzi of Negaunee; four grandchildren: Angelo Goodreau, Ellia Goodreau-Yeager, Isaac and Marlee Yeager; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Goodreau; and sister, Susan 'Dolly' Johnson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 26th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at noon, and also at a luncheon in the St. Paul Gymnasium following services.
