Robert Gordon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by United Funeral Service, Inc. on Jan. 26, 2026.
Robert Dean Gordon, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis, TN, on January 24, 2026, at the age of 87. Born in Union County, MS, on April 12, 1938, to the late Thomas Gordon and Lottie Mae Garrett Gordon, Robert led a life marked by love, dedication, and a gift for crafting and outdoor adventures.

Robert was the beloved patriarch of a large and vibrant family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Cindy Kennon Gordon, their five sons, Bobby (Melanie) Gordon, Robert Jr. (Brooke) Gordon, Shane "Bubba" Gordon, Mark (Becky) Gordon, and Chad (Amber) Gordon; and two daughters, Kim Moore (Jeff) and Christy Brownlee (Scott); nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was a loving brother to eight sisters, Martha Rossell, Janie Frazier, Peggy Pickens, Barbara Steward, Brenda Shettles, Pam Foster, Deloris Kent, and Teresa Moore, and to one brother, Tommy Gordon. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter Tammy Gordon, his son Danny Ray Gordon, five sisters, Betty Whitten, Mary Wilkerson, Ann Gregory, Carolyn Gordon and Cathy Huffman, and two beloved grandsons.

Throughout his life, Robert worked diligently in the construction industry, where his skill and work ethic earned him the respect and friendship of colleagues and the wider community. His free time was often spent in the great outdoors; he was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed running dogs. His love for fishing was equally matched by his talent for woodworking-creating many cherished pieces that spoke to his handy and resourceful nature. Above all, Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., all at United Funeral Service. Bro. Chad Gordon and Bro. Will Carpenter will officiate. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Gardens.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
