I was a student at Haynes School in 62. I was in 2nd grade. One cold January day on the playground I slipped and fell hit my head and was bitten by a snake on my forehead. He saw me. I showed him the bump on my head and the two fang wounds side by side on the bump on my head. I told him I fell landed next to a hole and a snake came out and bit me.
He patiently walked me outside reminding me that snakes aren't out in the winter. I pointed out the spot, he leaned down and showed me a spot where two points of ice had grown up about a quarter of an inch and told me this is what my head hit. He talked me off the emotional cliff I was on. He told me I was not going to die from a poisonous snake bite.
What a great story he had to tell at home. He could throw a football underhand high in the air as well. I still remember after 58 year. Heaven is for people like him.

Mr. Gorman was one of the best teachers! He and Mrs. Ally were inspirational. I just found out that he passed away in February. It's May 2020, and I was looking him up because I had such good memories flood back as I listen to Hank Williams. I liked how he started class with a record from "Snoopy and the Red Baron" to "Hot Rod Lincoln" and more. I remember the drill calls out on the field as we practiced military marching. Thank goodness he taught us how to not pass out in the heat at parade rest during the town hall speech giving on Flag Day. Oh, I learned to do math, too. Miss you more, Mr. Gorman.

Wishing Mr. Gorman's family peace and great memories of him at this difficult time. My maternal grandmother, Beatrice Martin, was a friend and fellow teacher with Mr. Gorman in the early years of his teaching career. She used to tell us what a remarkable teacher he was. My parents moved to Sudbury in 1959, and Mr. Gorman was our principal when the Josiah Haynes School opened when I was in second grade. He was revered by the students, and it was always a special day when Mr. Gorman came outside during recess and led students around the playground with fun army marching drills. He expected the best from kids, and by being firm yet fun and setting high standards, his students rose to the occasion for him.
My younger sister Susie was lucky enough to be assigned to his class for her sixth grade year; the first year he returned to teaching from his principal role, and she maintains to this day that he was the best teacher she ever had. She wrote to him years Many years later, after he had retired, she wrote a letter to him to tell him that, and was thrilled that he wrote right back to her!
What a special man, and so perfectly suited to his life's work with kids. We are so sorry for your great loss, but hope you find blessings in knowing how much he impacted the lives of so many young people!
In sympathy,
Judy (Nichols) Paul

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Gormans passing. I have few teachers in my past that left an indelible mark on my life and my Fifth grade teacher was certainly one. While disciplined in the classroom, Mr. Gorman always could find a way to laugh.
One of my favorite School projects throughout my entire childhood was my Rube Goldberg project. Mr. Gorman had a unique way of making learning fun, while still expecting Your best.
I know a few of my siblings benefitted from Mr. Gormans guidance As well, and for that we will be eternally grateful.
May he Rest In Peace knowing how many beyond his immediate family benefitted from teaching and support.
Condolences,
Kevin Dolan

I worked with Bob for many years.
I will always remember his stories about fishing. He cared about conservation.
There are many stories but this is the one I thought of first. Bob's classroom was unique. When you went to his classroom you knocked on the door and waited. A student would open it and then the entire class would stand and greet you.You always returned the greeting.
He played and the students sang the national anthem every morning in his classroom. He was always very particular about his students using proper grammar.
I remember him dressing up and selling balloons at Fall Fling.
Both of my daughters were in his class. They both agreed he was good teacher.
We are all very sad to hear of his passing.

Dear family of Mr. Gorman, At such a time, words seem meaningless and only the heart speaks. Three of our seven children were fortunate to have Mr. Gorman as a Fifth Grade teacher in SUDBURY. His legacy lives on in them as well as countless other students. Be assured our hearts are full of gratitude for his unconditional commitment to his students. Beyond the classroom, we remember when our childrens grandfather passed away, Mr. Gorman personally came to the wake to express his condolences. Without a doubt, our family was deeply touched. Our prayer today is that each of you will share in the peace he now enjoys and so very much deserves.

Mr. Gorman was the principal at Horse Pond Road school and had the entire school marching behind him at lunch around the playground. He also was at Haynes school when I was in 6th grade, lowering the flag when JFK was assasinated. He registered me to vote later in my life when I was old enough and admitted I made him feel old doing this! He was my most memorable teacher and I can still hear him calling out your Left, your left, your left, right left with all of us joining him as he was our leader @Horse Pond Road School❤

Many members of the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School Class of 1978 were privileged to have known Mr. Gorman as principal of the Josiah Haynes Elementary School, or as a 6th Grade teacher at the Peter Noyes Elementary School. Our memories of Mr. Gorman are universally happy and respectful of him. We express our collective sympathies and condolences to his family.

Nobody yet has mentioned him putting on a 45 record of "Sweet Georgia Brown" and passing a little basketball back and forth through the class! RIP, Mr. Gorman.

Mr Gorman was my fifth grade teacher, and without a doubt one of the best teachers I was lucky enough to have. It's safe to say, he had a large impact on me as at 73 I still remember him with a smile on my face. He respected kids and always made us feel special. School was both fun and educational. Loved him.

"Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades sonny boy!" (I remember him saying this a lot in 6th grade!). Mr. Gorman had a big impact on my life & taught me how to work harder at school - he was my 6th grade teacher as well as my brothers 6th grade teacher. I ran into him on a golf course maybe 9-10 years ago - he was happy - he had a smile that would brighten anyone's day. My sincere condolences to his family.

Mr. Gorman was my principal at Josiah Haynes School in the 60s. I remember him as being very nice and lots of fun outside at recess! He used to race-walk, and that always sent me into fits of laughter to watch him do that!
