NORTH TONAWANDA, NY
STURBRIDGE, MA
NORTHBOROUGH, MA
Alexander ("Alex" to some, "Al" to others) Young was born December 18, 1930, in North Tonawanda, New York, as the oldest of three children to the late Alexander Young and Salome ("Sally" Prelewicz) Young. He was raised, educated and married in North Tonawanda, graduated from Niagara University, and worked in Western NY, until a job transfer took him to Warren Pumps (Warren, MA) in 1974, where he eventually retired as a Chief Financial Officer. He and the family resided in Walker Pond in Sturbridge, MA for 40+ years. Upon the passing of his wife, he relocated to Northborough, MA.
Alex proudly served as an Army Corporal in the Korean War. He was a devoted lifelong sports fan, most notably, his unwavering loyalty to the Buffalo Bills, his favorite football team. Alex was an avid golfer and longtime member of Cohasse Country Club in Southbridge, MA. He bowled for the American Motor Lodge team from Sturbridge. Alex and his wife loved to travel to warm, sunny places, drove cross-country twice, and enjoyed visiting U.S. national monuments as well as casinos. He was extremely proud of his Polish heritage.
Alex was happiest when gathered with the extended family for holidays and special times such as school and sporting events, births, graduations, weddings and the 4th of July Picnic in Walker Pond. Despite the Bills' four consecutive Super Bowl losses in the 1990s, Alex's Super Bowl parties with family were legendary and remain a treasured memory.
Alex passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at Beaumont Westborough after a brief illness. He recently celebrated his 95th birthday.
Alex was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn (Margevich, formerly of North Tonawanda, NY), who passed in 2016, as well as his sister, Dorothy ("Dorrie") Young. He is survived by his three children: Gary Young (and his wife, Sharon) of Sandwich, MA and Naples, FL; Tim Young (and his wife, Deb) of Northborough, MA; and Margaret ("Peggy") Wood of Eagan, MN. Grampy is survived by his 6 grandchildren, Andrew Young (Meaghan), Alyssa Parker (Garett), Caroline Halvatzis (George), Julianna Young (fiancé, Mitch), Jordan Young and Cheneille Young and 5 great-grandchildren James, Erin and Thomas Young, and Liam and Sophia Parker - all of whom he adored. Al also leaves his sister, Anne Marie Kwasniewski of West Seneca, NY; several nieces and nephews from the Kwasniewski and Margevich families, and longtime friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Following military honors, Alex will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, MA. A private Celebration of Life will follow. There are no public services planned at this time.
