Robert A. Graham passed away peacefully in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the age of 92. Known to his Uvalde friends as Bobby, he was a longtime resident of the city. He and his sister Jayne attended Uvalde High School where Bobby graduated in 1949. He was a star athlete in basketball, track, and football, and was proud to have earned nine athletic letters. In 1951, Bob married Lettie Barbara Umphres of Carrizo Springs, TX in Asherton. They moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1958 with their three children - Stephanie Ann Farrow, Mark Lee Graham, and Stuart Russell Graham. He joined the Physical Research group of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, where he retired in 1996 as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. He continued his scientific research in the analysis of the millions-of-years old meteorite impact crater near Uvalde.
Bobby’s wife Barbara died in 1992 after 41 years of marriage. In 1996, he married Nell Heard Griffin of Sabinal, TX. The couple attended high school together. Bobby and Nell lived briefly in Albuquerque before making their home in Uvalde in 1998.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
