Robert Greenleaf Obituary

Robert R. Greenleaf, 58, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Murrysville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. He was born March 10, 1967, the son of the late Robert Kurtz Greenleaf and Barbara (Ruckle) Greenleaf of Murrysville. Rob grew up in Murrysville and graduated from Franklin Regional High School, where he excelled academically and played varsity basketball. He was an avid Pitt fan, earning his bachelor's degree and MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also helped manage the basketball team. Rob spent his career teaching at North Allegheny High School, but his true love was coaching basketball. He was an assistant coach at La Roche College and also coached in several high school and other college programs. His crowning achievement was taking the Franklin Regional team to the state championship in 1997. Rob is survived by his mother, Barbara Greenleaf; two aunts; Bonnie (Tony) Mack and Alice Jane Serra; and several cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and students. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, and from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville. June 7, 2025

This is a sad time for me and our family. Our relationship goes back to the mid 1980's and Rob was a senior at FHS. I was a volunteer mentor teacher from Junior Achievement, and I drew Franklin regional where I also lived. One of my most rewarding experiences was meeting the young Rob and serving as a friend and mentor to him. We both loved Basketball and Pitt. Rob was outgoing and friendly and a tone setter for his classmates. He was always smiling and quick with a joke. I do not remember anyone who didn't like him. Ironically just as I had befriended Rob, my son Aaron became a FR basketball players, and they became lifelong friends. I think they made a pledge to win Pa. State, and it was only injury that roadblocked them in the championship game. Of course, thru those long years of interaction, I got to know his parents and both families became friends. Rob was special to us all and his smile will be sorely missed. It was neat how the teacher's student became the teacher and role model for the son of first teacher. Rest in Peace buddy, and peace be with your family. Now, you will see all the Pitt games no matter where. Beat Penn State!
