Robert James "Bob" Grilz Sr., passed away peacefully in Roseville, MN on Sunday, October 12, 2025, with his loving wife of 66 years by his side. He was born on April 6,1936 in St. Paul, MN, the son of Mathias and Mary (Tschida) Grilz. Bob was united in marriage to Jean Spexet on July 11, 1959.
Bob had a deep love for the simple joys in life. He was never happier than when he was out on the golf course, casting a line at the lake, or tending to his property with one of his beloved tractors. Autumn was one of his favorite seasons – not just for the beauty, but for the satisfying ritual of burning leaves.
A true people person, Bob had a gift for conversation – whether he knew you or not, he would strike up a chat like you were old friends. His loyal companion Daisy, the family dog, was never far from his side. Bob cherished his family, preparing and doing things for 'the kids' as he called all of us, spending time at the lake, and creating memories filled with laughter. His love for his family was unwavering, a testament to the life of love, laughter, and connection he so fully lived.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jean Grilz of Roseville, MN; his children, Roxanne (Glenn) Schuler of Roseville, MN, Robert (Sandra) Grilz Jr. of Webster, WI, Elizabeth (Steve) Childs of Sunrise Township, MN and Jean Abeldt of McKinney, TX; his 9 grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ed (Geri) Grilz of Maplewood, MN; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his sisters, Marie, Kate, Margaret, and Emma; his brothers, Joe, Rich, Larry, Alfred, Ray, and Don; and his son-in-law, Buford Abeldt Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street in Spooner where visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Spooner Cemetery.
