Robert Edward Grum

1928 - 2023

Robert Edward Grum, 95, a lifelong resident of North Chicago, IL passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, IL. He went to Mother of God elementary school, and graduated from St. George High School in Evanston, IL. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann (nee Balmes) 73 years ago in 1950 at The Church of St. Patrick in Wadsworth, IL. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army for 4 years. Bob was employed at U.S. Steel for 32 years and later at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan for 10 years. He was a current member of the Church of St. Patrick in Wadsworth, IL., a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 731, a member of KSKJ St. Mary's Lodge # 79, and a former longtime member of Holy Family Church, now Queen of Peace Church, Most Blessed Trinity Parish in North Chicago. He loved camping, fishing and was an avid Cub's fan, but the most important part of his life was his family. Bob was 'God, Country, Family' in every sense of the word. Survived by his wife Mary Ann, four sons: David (Lisa), Robert Jr. (Kathy), Rick (Susan), and Tony (Karen) Grum, and daughter Mary Kay Grum, twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Grum, brother and sister-in-law Joe and Bev Grum, his nephew Michael Grum, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren and numerous in-laws and extended family members.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10:00 am at The Church of St. Patrick, 15000 Wadsworth Rd., in Wadsworth, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until time of Mass at the church. Inurnment will be held privately at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. at a later date.
