Robert was 68 years old and he born in
Nashville, Tennessee to Evelyn & Joseph Halliburton, one of 5 children. When he was 3, his family moved to Orlando, where he spent the majority of his life and built a community around him that knew and loved him.
Robert was born with cerebral palsy and faced physical challenges throughout his life, yet he never complained. Instead, he embraced life with gratitude, perseverance, and joy, mastering many obstacles. He loved life, people, music and above all, Jesus, on whom he leaned and trusted through the good and bad days. His faith was astonishing, central to who he was and how he lived each day. A longtime and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Orlando, Robert attended every time he was able and found fellowship, purpose, and spiritual grounding through his church family. Known for his gentle spirit and welcoming nature, he never met a stranger and was truly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Early in life, Robert lived at Sunland before transitioning into group homes as he worked toward independence. Through determination and perseverance, he achieved the milestone of living independently and resided in his own apartment for many years, maintaining that independence until his passing - an accomplishment that was a source of pride to him and those who supported him. Robert attended Quest South & Quest North for many years and later enjoyed being part of Easter Seals Camp Challenge, a program that held a special place in his heart. Camp Challenge was a source of joy, community, and respite for Robert, where he loved spending time with others and fully embracing moments of happiness and connection.
Robert had a great sense of humor and an extraordinary memory…especially for numbers, which he never forgot. He had a gift for talking to the Lord and was always ready to read his Bible and sing a song to the Lord. At the Quest Christmas Banquets over the years, he was the one who gave the blessing, each one as touching as the year before. He loved food, music, and laughter, and he approached each day with the intention to do his best and be his best. His life was a blessing to all who knew him. One of his friends remembers meeting him in the '70s when he lived at Sunland. She and her service group were singing Christmas carols there, and Robert was front & center, singing every carol without missing a beat, with a broad grin and great enthusiasm. Little did she know that a few years later, her sister & Robert would go steady…for 23 years.
A constant and devoted presence in Robert's life for more than two decades was Tabatha Jones, whose unwavering support, care, and advocacy were instrumental throughout much of his adult life. Although Robert's family life was complex, he tried to remain in touch with them. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Hudson, his father, Joseph Halliburton, and his two brothers, Joey and Andy. He is survived by his sisters, Pam and Amy. Also left to cherish his memory are his longtime friends Natalie, Paula, Bo, Wayne, Linda, and Karen, and many others, including a host of caregivers, church members, and friends whose lives he touched over the years. Above all, Robert will be remembered for his faith, resilience, kindness, and quiet strength. His life was one of dignity, perseverance, and love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
