Robert Giffin Hamilton, 92, born in Mill Springs, NC, and currently of Spartanburg, passed away at home on July 30, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. Bob was one of ten children of Robert Jackson Hamilton and Gladys Wagner Hamilton.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Smith Hamilton, son Rob G. Hamilton (Elizabeth), and daughter Trish Hamilton Cobourn. Bob is also survived by six siblings: William of Titusville, FL, Patrick of New Bern, NC, Mike (Robin) of Mims, FL, Bruce (Janice) of Mims, FL, Barbara Hamilton Horton of Anderson, SC, and Annette Hamilton Bain of Orlando, FL. Bob is also survived by his five grandchildren, Eddie Lawson (Monica), Emily Grace and Sarah Caroline Cobourn, and William (Liam) Robert and Lauren Elizabeth Hamilton, as well as great-grandchildren Eddie and Margaret Lawson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Marty, Jackie, and Shannon Hamilton, and daughters Marcia Hamilton Lawson Hallinan and Sharon Hamilton George.
Bob retired from Lockwood Greene Engineers after 35 years as a mechanical engineer and went on to work as a consultant at Hoechst Celanese for another 10 years. Over the years, he served as president of the Landrum Lions Club, Chairman of the Spartanburg County Republican Party, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Gramling United Methodist Church, and as a member of the Spartanburg County Voter Registration Board for 10 years.
The family wishes to express special thanks and appreciation to Bob’s dedicated longtime caregiver, Angie Hughes, and to Agape Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 - 1:45 on Tuesday, August 5, at J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Spartanburg, SC. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with a private burial in Mill Springs, NC, on Tuesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Small but Mighty Rescue, 583 Smith Chapel Road, Campobello, SC 29322.
