Robert "Hank" Wayne Grooms, Sr.

Robert Wayne Grooms, Sr. went home to be with his Lord & Savior on July 7, 2025. Robert known by his NC family & friends as Hank and his SC family & friends as Bubba was born on October 27, 1949 in Charleston, SC. He retired from owning & operating Bob’s Family Shoes. Hank lived a life loving others, he was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren and showed patience and kindness to everyone. When he wasn’t taking care of his grandkids, he loved cruising with his family and friends and spending countless hours lying on the beach with his wife Joni. He enjoyed watching Tarheel basketball and reruns of his favorite show NCIS.

Hank is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Joni Grooms, daughter Jami Doby (John) and son Robert Grooms, Jr; his grandchildren, Anna (Brandon), Stephanie (Zach), Caleb, Chandler, Sarah, Landon, Cohen & Kaitlyn and great-grandchildren, Zyair, Maddox & Zion; his sister Barbara Dingle (Dickey) and brother, Ransome Grooms (Linda) along with many nieces & nephews. Hank was preceded in death by his father, David Ransome Grooms, Sr; mother, Mary Lennis Avant Grooms; and daughter, Alisha Dawn Grooms.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at 2pm with a visitation from 12:45pm to 1:45pm at Lowes Funeral Home & Crematory in Burlington, NC. A committal service will then follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AuthoraCare Collective Hospice.
