Robert Leonard Hawkins died peacefully on March 6, 2026 after a long illness. He was born on September 19, 1948 to Helen (Matthews) and Woodrow Hawkins in Moriches, New York. He attended St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Center Moriches, Mercy High School in Riverhead and Western Connecticut State College in Danbury, Connecticut. He was always active in team sports and continued to play softball for Brookhaven Town into his sixties. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 35 years. After retirement, Robert then worked at Adesa Auto Auction for 13 years. Robert made many friends at both jobs.
To his family and friends, Bob (Bobby) was always available to help and to play. He enjoyed hosting pool parties for friends and coworkers. He developed a love for travel across this country, as well as a few trips to Europe. If you were a friend of Bob's you were a friend for life.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Woodrow and Helen Hawkins, sisters Kathleen Irish and Patricia Dorfer, brothers-in-law George Irish and Gregory Dorfer, sisters-in-law Cynthia Hawkins and Mary Jean Hawkins. He is survived by his brothers Joseph from Athol, Massachusetts, Michael from Poughkeepsie, New York and Kenneth and wife Kathleen from Bellport, New York. Robert is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews as well as 16 Great nieces and nephews.
