Robert Dickson Hayes, 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at his home in Ben Hur, Virginia.
Robert was born on January 31, 1938 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to the late Willard and Clara Hayes. He was a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, class of 1963. Robert completed his residency at Bay Village Hospital in Ohio. He then became a practicing surgeon most recently in Lee County, Virginia from 1989 to his retirement at age 64. Robert was with his beloved wife Mary Gehring for 40 years.
Along with his parents, Robert is preceded in death by two sisters, Donna White and Karen Eming.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Gehring Hayes; son, Christopher Hayes (Elizabeth Kern); three daughters, Kimberly Price (Kevin), Jennifer Avram (Peter Norton), January Coventry (Nicholas); special extended family, Nikki Wallen (Garon) and their children Ryder and Aidyn, Tiffany Tritt (Barry) and child Evan; brother in law, Charles Gehring (Kathleen); sister in law, Kathleen Gallion; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Lindsey, Nickolas, Stephanie, Esme, and Florence; six great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews; two dogs, Sophie and Cooper; and his bird, Wilbur.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice (Ashley Hill and Jen Mckay) and special care givers (Riley Hill and Cheryl Bradford).
Per Robert's wishes, he will be cremated with no formal services.
