Bob will be missed immensely at Liberty Towers. He was my very first resident I moved into the property when I first started managing it 12 years ago. In those 12 years we became very close. He was not only my resident but a very dear friend to me and my husband, Chuck. (picture of Bob and Chuck). Bob would drive over to my house, while I was working, to visit Chuck and watch the chickens, Petie the turkey and love on my dogs. He reminded me so much of my grandfather. He would sit in my office often and talk about life, the past and the present. Bob was one of those guys who said what he felt but also had a heart of gold. I respected his honesty even at those times I had to question my thoughts. He was normally correct. lol.
He was so thankful to Al who called him every Wednesday night just to say, Hi Dad, how was your day. Bob looked forward to those calls and no matter what event was happening at the Towers he would say sorry, I can´t attend, my son, Al, is calling me tonight. He also appreciated being able to count on Al in his elder years to be there for him when needed. Family meant a lot to him especially the older he got. He also looked forward to his nephew and his family who came down to camp each year and would take him out for a steak dinner. He loved those visits. He would smile and talk about it for days. I remember the day he came back from visiting his sister this year. He looked so sad. I asked, what´s wrong and he replied, I just went to visit my sister and it was a nice visit. I then asked, why so sad? He replied, it´s probably the last time I´ll see her. Bob knew time was drawing near but he would still say, I´m going to live until I´m 100.
Bob was a floor captain on the 2nd floor. He held a master key to help those other residents in an emergency situation. When he found out he got cancer again he passed the key unto another resident but made it clear it was temporary because he would be taking it back. How I wish I could hand him the key back.
Bob was also our hallway sheriff (picture) monitoring those residents that rode their scooters too fast through the hallways. I wanted and he wanted a squirt gun to spray them when they weren´t following the rules but Headquarters didn´t think that was a good idea. Lol.
I´ll miss seeing Bob and having our conversations. God truly has another Angel in heaven.
Bobs name will be placed on our Memorial Plaque in the entry lobby at Liberty Towers.
