Robert David Helmick, of New Creek, WV, known to his loved ones as Bob, left this world on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the age of 83, at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser.
Born on January 14, 1941, in New Creek, WV, Bob was a cherished member of his community, leaving a lasting impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Ervin William Helmick, his mother, Della May (Liller) Helmick, his beloved wife, Joyce Kathryn (Lark) Helmick and two brothers, Bernard William Helmick and wife Pat and Roger Allen Helmick and wife Darlene.
His memory will forever be cherished by his children, Allan D. Helmick and wife Susan and Tammy S. Suffern and husband John, all of New Creek; his grandchildren whom he deeply adored, Laura Costello and significant other Aaron Turner, Emily Simpson and husband Chris, Rachel Stevens and husband Derek and Robin Leatherman and husband Josh; his great grandchildren, Hayden and Hazel Costello, Charlotte and Vivian Simpson, Jackson Stevens and Camden and Paisley Leatherman; a special niece that he considered as a daughter, Doris Shreve of Scherr, WV and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A man of many talents and passions, Bob graduated from Keyser High School in 1959 and went on to work at Boggs Supply in Keyser from 1964-1984. He also dedicated his time and energy to Pro-Stainless in Keyser. Bob was not only a dedicated employee but also a committed community member. He was a life member of the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department and served as a long-time board member of the New Creek Water Association, showcasing his deep commitment to the well-being of those around him.
Bob's kind and compassionate nature made him a special presence in the lives of many. His warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering support endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of generosity and selflessness will continue to inspire all those who were touched by his presence.
The family will be receiving guests for visitation at Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, November 11, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. The New Creek Volunteer Fire Department will hold a memorial service at 4:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Randy Leatherman officiating.
Bob will be laid to rest in the Biser Cemetery, Knobley Road, Keyser.
In this time of loss, the family would like to extend a special thank you to Joyce Shanholtz for her loving and compassionate care of Bob. Her kindness and support has been a source of great comfort during this difficult time.
