Robert "Rob" Ruben Hernandez slipped from this world on December 9, 2025, at the age of 39, leaving behind a constellation of people who loved him and a story that, while too brief, was filled with depth, tenderness, and a fight few knew. Born in
Brooklyn, New York, on September 2, 1986, Robert eventually made his home in
Campbellsville, Kentucky-but no matter where he lived, he carried pieces of both loyalty and laughter.
Robert's life was not an easy road, yet he walked it with a loyal heart and a spirit that never entirely dimmed. He wrestled courageously with addiction, a battle that too often went unseen, but one he faced with a strength far greater than most ever knew. Though his journey ended sooner than anyone wished, those who loved him will forever remember the ways he laughed, the ways he helped, and the ways he loved-with his whole, honest self.
His happiest place was always the lake, where the water held his reflections and his peace. Old cars called to him like old souls, and there was little he couldn't fix when he set his hands to it. He understood broken things-machines, moments, people-and he treated them with patience, care, and a quiet wisdom.
Robert is survived by the heart of his world, Dana Hicks, his devoted companion, and his beloved daughters, Kailei Hernandez and Ava Fields, whose love anchored him through every season. He also leaves behind his father, Pedro Hernandez, and Pedro's companion, Jean Underwood; his sisters, Stephanie Guerrero and her husband, Juan Guerrero, and Elena Hernandez; and his brother, Angelo Hernandez.
His love extends outward still, carried by his nieces and nephews: Domonique Wisniewski, Elisa Perez, Danny Figueroa Jr., Robert Figueroa, Kyasia Hernandez, Taliyah Higgins, Jalin Dennis, Frank Bellamy III, and Ziair Conner.
He was welcomed into the next life by his mother, Carol Schonmann Hernandez, whose absence he felt deeply and whose embrace he now returns to.
Special mention to friends that remained with him to the end: William Hardin, Quincy and Tammy Travis, John Phillips, Leo Guerrero, and Craig Caswell
In one final act of generosity, Robert chose to be an organ donor-offering life, hope, and healing to others, even as he took his leave. It was a final reflection of who he was: giving, genuine, and loyal to the end.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where those who knew him will gather to tell his stories-by water, by memory, by laughter-and carry forward the pieces of him that will never fade.
May the lake be calm, the sky open, and his spirit finally at rest.
