He graduated from Colonia Senior High School, and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree at Arizona State University. He was employed for almost 40 years at Princeton Plasma Physics as a Lab Tech Level 6. Bird spent 43 years with the Pemberton Township Fire Department, holding many offices including Chief Engineer. In his spare time he enjoyed trips to the casino's, and online gaming including pool and cribbage.
Husband of the late Anna May Herskowitz; he is survived by his loving daughter, Patricia Herskowitz; siblings, Linda Wilson and Martin Herskowitz (Debby); and nieces and nephews, Stephanie Baer (Alex), Andy Wilson, and Benjamin and William Herskowitz.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 1-4PM, at the Country Lakes Fire Station, 103 Fire House Road, Browns Mills, NJ.
Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
