Robert Alan Higdon was born January 5, 1954, in Coffeyville, Kansas. His parents were William and Georgene Higdon. Robert had one sibling: His older brother Billy. When Robert was 3 months old, the family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, which became his permanent home. They lived on Penn Street until his father purchased 30 acres Southwest of Bartlesville on Old Moose Lodge Road. This is when Robert officially became a "Country Boy." He would hunt and fish every spare moment he had. He also loved to camp out on the banks of the Caney River. This is where he liked to ride on his canoe.
Even though he thought he was alone, his dad kept a watchful eye through the trees. Robert started attending Matoka Baptist Church, a small country church a few miles from the house. He was Baptized in the pond behind the building. Robert also met a pretty young lady, Judy Ennis, at the church, whom he later married on July 7, 1972. Out of the marriage, they had one child, Robert Earl Higdon, who preceded Robert Alan in death.
In 1994, Robert Met Kathy Roberta Zulpo. After a 2 ½ year courtship, they married on August 10, 1996, and made their home at 6001 Baylor Drive in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Kathy's children, Christine and Daniel, lived there also throughout their grade school years and all throughout high school. Robert loved and raised them as his own. Robert had a prayer he tried to live by: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."
Robert began working at Reda Pump right out of high school. He was employed by them for 43 years. Robert would then retire. Even though the company was bought and the name was later changed to Schlumberger, Robert and his co-workers always knew it as Reda Pump. He was respected by his friends and family for being a hard worker and good provider.
Although many of his daily activities were cut short by dementia, Robert and his grandson, Dylan, spent many mornings and afternoons hunting and fishing in his later years before entering the nursing home. In December 2017, Robert and Kathy found out that Robert had early-onset dementia. It was difficult as Kathy had to place him in Brookdale Assisted Living in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he lived a year before moving to Heritage Villa in Bartlesville, where he passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, William and Georgene Higdon, brother Billy Higdon, and son Robert Earl Higdon.
Robert is survived by his wife, Kathy Higdon; his stepdaughter, Christine Nickerson; his stepson, Daniel Zulpo; and his grandsons, Dylan Higdon and Vincent Nickerson.
