Robert W. "Bob" Hile, 75, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025, following an extended illness.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Bob was the beloved son of the late William C. and Marilyn J. (née Shafer) Hile. He grew up in Columbus, OH, where he graduated from Brookhaven High School and went on to earn his associate degree from Columbus State Technical College.
Bob proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for six years during the Vietnam War, specializing as a Huey helicopter mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1975, the same year he began what would become a distinguished 29-year career with United Parcel Service (UPS).
Starting as a package car driver, Bob rose through the ranks to become a supervisor. With the launch of UPS's aircraft division, Bob's military aviation background made him a natural fit. He ultimately served as Vice President of Aircraft Maintenance, retiring in 2004. Notably, from 1989 to 1991, he was stationed in Italy to oversee the conversion of passenger planes to cargo aircraft.
In 2005, Bob and his wife, Cindy, settled in Bonita Springs, FL, after relocating from Louisville, KY. A passionate sportsman, Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy L. Hile of Bonita Springs; his brother, Kerry W. Hile (Cathy) of Delaware, OH; and his niece, Jess L. Hile (Jeff Williams) of Castle Rock, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marilyn Elikofer, in 2022.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL. A memorial tribute will begin at 5:30 PM, followed by military honors.
