Robert Montgomery Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home on Feb. 24, 2026.
Robert Marvin Montgomery Sr., 87, went home to Heaven on February 17, 2026. Affectionately known as "Monty," he was born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. A graduate of Fort Myers High School, he played football and was voted "Most Friendly" his senior year - a title that perfectly captured the spirit he carried throughout his life.

He attended South Georgia State College, where he played football under Coach Bobby Bowden, whom he regarded as a mentor. The lessons he learned - discipline, perseverance, faith, and heart - became guiding principles that shaped him.

In the late 1960s, Marvin made his home in Naples, where he built a life defined by hard work and determination. He owned and operated several successful businesses, most notably Monty Sanitation. With what many described as a true "Midas touch," Marvin had a remarkable instinct for business - turning opportunity into success through grit, wisdom, and an unwavering work ethic. He was a generous man and a wonderful provider. He served as a deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church and was a dedicated board member at Naples Christian Academy. He also served in the Army Reserves, where he often cooked his fried fish and hushpuppies.

Marvin loved old country music - the kind that told stories of hard work, heartache, faith, and family. He was honest, sometimes rowdy, adventurous, and tender-hearted. His good-ole-boy charm - paired with his gift for storytelling, Southern drawl, contagious laugh, and genuine nature - made him truly unforgettable.

He found joy on the water, especially skimming across the grasses and Gulf in his airboat or casting a line for redfish.

With love and sincere gratitude, he is remembered by his family: Robbie and Heidi Montgomery; Stephanie Montgomery; Kathy and Roy Merritt; Bryan and Lisa Wiles; his twelve grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

As one of his favorite sayings goes, Dad, you are now 'jam up and jelly tight.' Until we meet again, we will carry you in our hearts.
