Robert Eugene Hillier passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, at HealthSource Saginaw, at the age of 87. Born on February 11, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, Robert was the beloved son of Burt and Evelyn (Avery) Hillier. He worked for his father at Hillier Hardware until he followed his photography dream and opened Hillier Studio in 1974.
Robert lived a life of service, creativity, and community. He was deeply involved with Bridgeport Community Church, where he volunteered in youth leadership and served as camp director. His faith and generosity were evident in everything he did, whether sharing a prayer or capturing a moment through his lens. Beyond photography, Robert found joy in classic cars, proudly participating in the Bridgeport Car Show, golfing, and was head coach for the Bridgeport High School hockey team.
In the world of photography, Robert was widely respected, earning numerous awards and honors for his artistry. He freely shared his talents, often volunteering and teaching others. With a keen eye and creative spirit, he inspired his children, peers, and students to see beauty in everyday life, to express themselves boldly, and to always remember to look at the bigger picture.
Robert is survived by his children, Heidi (Michael) McGrandy of Saginaw, MI, and Robert “Bobby” Hillier of Lake Geneva, WI; his sister, Jean (Roger) Beck; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jessica) McGrandy, Molly McGrandy, Carson Hillier, Finn Hillier, and Tripp Hillier. Also surviving are his former wife and mother of his children Sharon Robinson Trepton, former wife Kay Hillier. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Kim and Ken Hillier.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America at www.DementiaSociety.org/donate. Online condolences may be shared at www.casefuneralhome.com.
