Robert Dean Hobbs

HOBBS - Robert "Bob" Dean Hobbs, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1988, died on Friday, June 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sondra; and numerous other relatives and friends. Bob was born on April 21, 1928 in Merkel, TX to Rosa and Bob Hobbs. He graduated from Merkel High School where he was on the Yearbook staff. As a youth, Bob enjoyed making model airplanes and it was always said his were the most beautiful. As a very small child he enjoyed drawing, even drawing on the kitchen table was allowed by his grandmother. Bob received his Bachelor�s of Science Degree in Art from West Texas State University, his Master�s Degree in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO, and his Doctorate from Penn State. Between each of these degrees he taught art in middle and high schools and in higher education. It was while teaching that he met Sondra Peckham and they were married on December 28, 1970. After retiring from Clarion University of Pennsylvania where Bob taught for 18 years, he and Sondra moved to Albuquerque where she found a teaching job. Everything about Bob�s life revolved around art. He painted, did collages, did silk screen work, and at the end of his life was working on a graphic autobiography. Bob had a wonderful dry sense of humor right up to the end. He and Sondra were members of John XXIII Catholic Community. Bob was a loving husband and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be recited Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4821 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 25, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at John XXIII Catholic Community. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in Bob�s name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or the American Heart American Heart Association National Center, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
