Robert Joseph Horton, 86, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes.
He was born Sept. 3, 1939, to Charles and Helen (Elliott) Horton in West Terre Haute, Ind. He graduated from Valley High School, West Terre Haute, in 1957.
He served in the Air Force for two years, then graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in accounting. He worked for an accounting firm in Memphis, Tenn., as well as for businesses in Terre Haute and for Miller and Co., Vincennes. After earning his designation as a certified public accountant, he worked for American National Bank.
After retirement from the bank, he ran his own CPA business in Vincennes for a number of years.
Bob enjoyed playing baseball and golf, as well as riding his motorcycle on long trips.
He and his wife of 26 years, Docia Frey, loved to travel, especially to the mountains and to the gulf side of Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Belinda (Larry) Smith of Danville, Ill.; a son, Blane (Lea) Horton of Jackson, Miss.; stepdaughters Lisa (Chris Dalton) Frey, Mundelein, Ill., and Laura (Dod) Michael, Indianapolis; grandchildren Andrew (Taffie) Smith; Lauren (John) McCool; Amber Marcum; Abby Horton; and Destiny (Quincy) Harris; great-grandchildren, Vivian, Matilda, John, Cohan, Adaline and Lea’oni; as well as a nephew and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Phillip Horton, and a nephew, Gary Horton.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Goodwin-Sievers Family Funeral Home, Vincennes. Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Memorial Park. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Robert and his family.
