Robert Hufstader Obituary

Robert "Bob" Hufstader

Concord, NH - Robert "Bob" Hufstader was called home to our Lord on February 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with declining health. He was born in Berlin, NH on February 24, 1938, to Paul and Grace (Hagerman) Hufstader.

Bob was raised at Eastwood Lodge in Oakland, Maine, and attended local schools. During his high school years, he played football, baseball and was active in Student Council. Singing tenor, he shared his musical talents with high school groups and a popular college a cappella chorus.

Following graduation in 1957 from Oakland Maine High School, he attended Maine Central Institute and the University of Maine. He joined the Air Force in June 1961, and during the Cuban Missile Crisis was an instructor of Missile Guidance Systems. He received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1965 having achieved the rank of Specialist.

Bob began a 35-year career with IBM in Kentucky, working as a Customer Service Engineer. He was recognized with many awards and was highly regarded by his clients.

Bob moved to New Hampshire with his sons David and Michael, where he met the love of his life, Diane. They were married in June of 1978 and moved to Canterbury where they established many lasting friendships. They became members of the Canterbury United Community Church where Bob served in several leadership roles. After nearly 40 years in Canterbury, Bob and Diane moved to Concord in 2016.

Starting at an early age, Bob developed a passion for the outdoors, which he later shared with his family on camping trips. One of his favorite places was Chimney Pond on Mount Katahdin. He also loved the Coast of Maine and often commented that he felt closest to God while there. Bob enjoyed photography and was frequently found in his darkroom developing the beautiful images he captured. Other interests included his fascination with cars, traveling, playing cards, and reading. Spending time with family and friends was important to Bob in both their New Hampshire and Florida homes.

Bob was patient, brave, caring, and thoughtful and will be sorely missed by his large circle of family and friends. We express our thanks to his medical team and to those who cared for him in his last days at Concord Hospital.

Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane (Bernier) Hufstader; his two children, David (Mandy) and Michael (Susan); his two grandchildren, Tia and Sam; special grandnieces Brayley and Ayla; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Grace Hufstader.

SERVICES: In accordance with Bob's wishes, memorial services will be held "in the spring" at the Canterbury United Community Church on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10 A.M. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Canterbury. A reception will be held after the interment.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Canterbury United Community Church, PO Box 216, Canterbury, NH 03224. To view Robert's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.phaneuf.net.
