Robert Gary Hulbert, known affectionately as Gary, and "Ginka" to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, in Walterboro, S.C., concluding a rich and full life at the age of 81. Born on May 6, 1943, in Canandaigua, N.Y., Gary was the beloved son of Robert Alden Hulbert and Catherine Elliott Hulbert.
A patriot at heart, Gary honorably served his country as a finance officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. After his service, he channeled his dedication and work ethic into his professional life as the owner of the R.A. Hulbert Insurance Agency. Gary retired after more than three decades of respected service and commitment to his clients and community.
Gary's life was characterized by his love for his family and friends. A widower, he carried the memory of his late wife, Sherlyn Hansen Hulbert, in his heart. Gary's legacy continues through his daughter, Cynthia Vollertsen and her husband Todd; his son, Brian Hulbert and his wife Sara; and his cherished grandchildren, Zachary and Nichole Vollertsen, Bradley and Isabell Hulbert, and Briar Buzza.
Known for his enjoyment of golf and sailing, Gary's happiest moments were often found on the lake or traveling to new and familiar destinations. His warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
